Draft Election Code Survey - #2
This event has been cancelled.
Event Information
Our community has consistently given direction that the new rules should (1) increase the size of Council, (2) create a longer term of office, (3) provide Council representation for members who live on-reserve and for those who live off-reserve, (4) ensure no one family can dominate the affairs of the First Nation, and (5) provide greater accountability to the membership.
These five important objectives are widely supported, and a Custom Election Code including these features would be a tremendous advance over the Indian Act rules. However, there are many ways each one of these objectives could be implemented, and it appears that one or more of the methods contained in the draft Election Code submitted for your approval in January of this year was not accepted.
We need to zero in on those remaining issues so that we can produce a revised package that the majority of our community will support. To do that we need your input. Please help us by completing and submitting this short survey! The survey is anonymous – nothing in the survey will identify the sender unless you want it to. All responses will be reviewed.
