RRFN Land Code Ratification Vote (2020)
A Land Code is a comprehensive law created by a First Nation to replace the 32 sections of the Indian Act that relate to land management. It is the document that sets out the terms and conditions under which a First Nation can establish its own land governance regime and remove its First Nation Land from the Minister’s control under the Indian Act. In order for the Land Code to be approved, it must be ratified by the eligible voters of the First Nation. All eligible voters, full members of the First Nation who are at least 18 years of age, whether living off-reserve or on-reserve, have the right to vote on the Land Code.
